Emerging Issues & Trends in Research

Challenges Posed by Emerging Issues and Coping Strategies

The internet has become a staple in daily life and its presence is only growing. The increase in internet users has led to an increase in online research. It is important to be aware of the issues that can arise from online research and to have strategies in place to cope with them. Here are some of the most important issues to consider:

a) Too much information on the internet

Websites are a dime a dozen. How can you be sure you’re getting accurate information? Here are some tips:

  • Look for sources that are experts in their field. If you’re looking for medical information, for example, find a website run by a hospital or medical school.
  • Check the date. Information on the internet can quickly become outdated. Make sure you’re looking at a website that’s been recently updated.
  • Be wary of sources that have a bias. Many websites are trying to sell you something, so they may not give you the whole story. Be sure to look at multiple sources before you make a decision. Get journal articles from refereed sources.
  • Finally, use your common sense. If a website looks like it was made in the 1990s, it’s probably not the most reliable source.

b) Poor reading, writing and research culture:

The internet has been a game-changer when it comes to how we consume information. We now have access to more information than ever before, and we can consume it in a variety of ways. However, this increased access to information has not necessarily led to an increase in the quality of writing and reading. In fact, many people argue that the internet has actually led to a decline in the quality of writing and reading.

One of the biggest problems is that people are simply not reading as much as they used to. With so much information available at our fingertips, it is easy to skim through articles and only read the headlines. This means that we are not taking the time to really engage with the material and understand it properly.

Another problem is that people are writing more but not necessarily writing better. The internet has created a culture of instant gratification, where people want to get their thoughts and ideas out there as quickly as possible without much regard for grammar, spelling or style. This can lead to sloppy and inaccurate writing.

So how can we curb the poor writing and reading culture that has developed in the internet age?

One way is to make a conscious effort to read more quality content. This means taking the time to find well-written and informative articles, and taking the time to read them properly. It might also mean setting aside some time each day to read for pleasure, instead of just reading what is necessary.

Another way to improve the quality of writing and reading is to write more yourself. This doesn’t mean that you need to become a professional writer, but simply that you should make an effort to write more often. This could be in the form of a blog, writing articles for online publications, or even just keeping a journal. Writing regularly will help to improve your writing skills and will also make you more aware of the importance of good writing.

We need to be more critical of the writing and reading material that we consume. We should question why we are reading something, and whether it is really worth our time. We should also be critical of our own writing, and strive to improve it. If we all make a conscious effort to improve the quality of writing and reading, then we can help to curb the poor writing and reading culture that has developed in the internet age.

Finally, there is need to inculcate the reading and writing culture in children. This helps create a new generation of readers and writers who are well-versed with the insider tips and tricks.

c) Plagiarism:

Plagiarism is the deliberate or accidental use of another person’s thoughts, ideas, or expressions without giving credit to that person. It can also include using someone else’s work or ideas without giving them proper credit. This is a serious offense that can lead to expulsion from school, loss of job, and even jail time.

There are many reasons why people plagiarize. Some do it because they’re lazy and don’t want to do their own work. Others do it because they’re trying to cheat their way to a better grade. Whatever the reason, plagiarism is always wrong and it can have serious consequences. It is important to be aware of the potential consequences before you decide to do it.

There are a few simple ways to avoid plagiarism.

  • The first is to make sure that you cite your sources. Whenever you use someone else’s work, make sure to give them credit. This can be done by adding a footnote or a citation.
  • The second way to avoid plagiarism is to use your own words. If you are using someone else’s ideas, make sure to explain them in your own words. This will help you avoid plagiarizing their work.
  • Finally, make sure to copy and paste your work into a plagiarism checker before you submit it. This will help you catch any plagiarism that you may have missed.

d) Ethical violations:

It is essential for researchers to gain ethical approval for their studies, regardless of the type of research being conducted. This is because ethical approval ensures that the research meets certain standards and guidelines, which protect the rights and welfare of participants.

There are a number of ethical considerations that need to be taken into account when designing and conducting research. These include issues such as informed consent, confidentiality and data protection. Ethical approval helps to ensure that these issues are addressed properly and that the research is carried out in a way that minimises any potential risks to participants.

Ethical approval is also important in ensuring that research is conducted in a responsible and accountable manner. Researchers who gain ethical approval for their studies are required to adhere to strict guidelines and procedures, which helps to ensure that the research is carried out properly and in accordance with best practice.

e) Poor publishing culture after the research work:

There are a number of ways to publish research findings. The most common method is to submit the findings to a journal for publication. However, this process can be time-consuming and may not always lead to the publication of the findings.

Another way to publish research findings is to present them at a conference. This can be an effective way to disseminate the findings to a large audience quickly. However, it is important to ensure that the conference is reputable and that the findings are presented in a clear and understandable manner.

The best way to ensure that research findings are published in a timely and effective manner is to employ a rigorous and reliable peer-review process. This process involves submitting the findings to a panel of experts for review and approval prior to publication. This ensures that the findings are of high quality and are likely to be of interest to the scientific community.
