STOP! The Power To Start Personal Transformation
As a student, have you felt that you have been putting in a lot of effort to study STEM subjects yet you have no tangible results to show for it? You are in a dilemma. You cannot quit because then, your failure will be resounding and you will be a laughing stock. An exhibit for bad examples.
As a teacher, have you ever sat at your desk and wondered if all the effort you have been putting in your work is worthwhile? Your students keep posting poor grades yet you are giving it your all, and you are just too tired of the current state of affairs. You are so discouraged to a point where you already have your draft resignation letter, waiting for the slightest provocation to print, sign and turn it in? You promise yourself that you “will not come to work tomorrow” yet you still find yourself at your desk, and in front of your class. The fear of quitting is just too great.
When you feel that you are too tired to continue doing the things you are doing and yet you are too afraid to quit…
Then you need to STOP!
Because STOP! is the power to start.
I am going to share with you a powerful piece of information that will change your life forever. When you feel that you are too tired to continue yet you are too afraid to quit, then STOP! is the place to start because STOP! gives you the power to start all over again.
So, what is this STOP!?
Simple. It is an acronym for four very incisive analytic tools for personal transformation that you can use to improve yourself.
S is for SOURCE
You go it right there! The first letter is the source.
While at the source, you will ask yourself this question:
Where am I?
Answering this question is very important because it will help you identify the reference point. You need to know where you are in order to find your bearing. Where are you in terms of that aspect of your life you would like to change? Is it your financial situation you would like to change? Is it spiritual, social, or any other engagement? You need to clearly define where you are currently.
T is for TARGET
The next thing is your target. You only achieve success when you consistently work toward a defined goal. A magnifying glass produces fire by focusing the sun’s rays at a point for some time.
Your big question here will be:
Where do I want to be?
You need to clearly define your target in specific and measurable manner. This is helpful because you will be able to quantify the amount of results you have achieved so far, and determine what you need to do to achieve what is still remaining. Specify your target level of income within a specific period of time. Determine the changes you are targeting to make in your social, physical, and spiritual commitment and then get out to work on achieving these goals.
O is for OBSTACLES
Don’t expect a smooth sail once you have set your eyes on the target. Obstacles are going to be there and you will choose to either recoil or you bulldoze through them.
Ask yourself this question:
What is stopping me from reaching my target?
Don’t listen to discouragements, use them as an opportunity to prove to yourself that things can be done differently. Make appointments out of every disappointment you will get. Convince yourself that they are learning opportunities and utilize them as such. Is your job stopping you from getting rich? are your friends stopping you from becoming a better person you want to be? What is preventing you from becoming a super parent you have always desired to be?
Identify these obstacles and analyze them keenly to know how best you will handle them.
P is for PLANS
Now that you have known where you are, you have determined where you want to be and are aware of the obstructions that may deter your success, you need a plan and a sound one for that matter.
Ask yourself the Question:
What are my plans for overcoming these obstacles so as to be able to move from the source to the target?
Plans are crucial to the success of any project. It is only SMART plans that make the necessary change, such as the change you are looking for right now. You will know that your plans are smart if they exhibit specificity, measurability, accuracy, reliability, and timeliness. Ensure you make SMART plans to overcome your obstacles so as to move from the source to the target.
STOP! analysis is very important for anyone desiring the Midas touch. This is a very powerful personal transformation tool that can be used in wide areas of an individual’s life to effect the necessary change. If your business is struggling, do a STOP! analysis. If your relationship is suffering, do a STOP! analysis. If your spirituality is suffering, do a STOP! analysis. If your career is suffering, do a STOP! analysis.
Organizations are made up of individuals and the required organizational change starts with individual change. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, you are the change you want to see in the world. Take the step and make that change a reality; it begins with you.
