    While there are many scholarships available, including international programs, most are accessible to Postgraduate students pursuing University degrees. But students from TVET, Medical Training Centers, and Technical Training Institutes do not qualify for these available International scholarships.

    This article highlights sponsorship opportunities for students pursuing TVET, MTC, and TTI courses.

    1. Rattansi Education Fund

    The Rattansi Education Fund aims to empower students from needy backgrounds to pursue higher learning – both public and private institutions. Rattansi bursary fund covers students’ yearly fees in their respective institutions.

    Scholarship value

    Students from diverse backgrounds can benefit from this program. Amount awarded will depend on a student’s case – financial need, course being pursued and academic performance.

    Eligibility

    The bursary is for students in polytechnics, public and private universities, as well as Technical Training Institutions.

    How to Apply

    Students are to apply through respective institutions. The institution will do the selection process, and if shortlisted, the Trust Fund will award the scholarship.

    2. Wangari Maathai Scholarship

    In honor of the Nobel Peace winner and environmentalist – Wangari Maathai – the scholarship benefits college students studying courses in environmental and natural resources conservation. Awarded annually, the scholarship fund is financed by three organizations: The Green Belt Movement, Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF), and Rockefeller Foundation.

    Scholarship worth

    The sponsorship is a full scholarship, which can be worth up to $10,000 – Ksh 1.2M.

    Eligibility

    • Be a student in a recognized Kenyan tertiary institution.
    • Be a female student in the age bracket 18 – 25 years.
    • Demonstrate you have actively participated in environmental conservation projects.

    3. Toyota Kenya Foundation Scholarships for College Students

    Kenyan students in technical colleges or polytechnics can take advantage of Toyota Kenya Foundation yearly scholarship. The diploma scholarship targets orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). Those awarded the scholarship can pursue several academic programs like agriculture, environmental management, engineering, and medicine.

    Scholarship value

    Amount to be awarded varies depending on one’s academic merit and financial status. Although the amount is undisclosed – the scholarship is fully paid.

    Eligibility

    • Have a minimum of C+ in KCSE.
    • Be a Second-year student.
    • Limited to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

    4. Funzo Medical Scholarship

    Funzo Medical scholarship empowers full-time students who are studying to become health workers and in-service health workers. The medical scholarship targeting bright and needy students is offered in two distinct programs – pre-service and in service.

    Scholarship value

    The scholarship is fully paid and students can get amounts ranging between Ksh 350,000 and Ksh 1.7M.

    Eligibility

    • Must be a Kenyan Citizen.
    • Must demonstrate you need financial assistance.
    • Must be in 1st, 2nd, 3rd year academic level.
    • Submit relevant copies of supporting documents (KCSE certificate, National ID, Leaving certificate, etc).

    How to apply

    Visit HELB’s website to download the application form. Print the form and fill in the relevant details, including having the relevant officials and authorities sign and stamp it. Once you’re done, scan the form and submit it at HELB’s main office – you can also send the form via email.

    5. Working to Advance African Women Foundation Scholarship

    WAAF scholarship fund aims to promote African women who are pursuing Science, Technology, Mathematics courses.

    Scholarship worth

    WAAW foundation offers $500 (Aprox. Ksh. 55,000) to women scholars in colleges, universities, and higher learning institutions.

    Eligibility

    • Be an African female student.
    • Be under 32 years of age.
    • Be a student pursuing an undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree program.
    • Be enrolled for a STEM-related course.
    • Demonstrate you need financial assistance.
    • Be in your 1st or 2nd
    • Demonstrate excellent academic track.

    How to apply

    Fill in the application on WAAW foundation website when its portal opens on August 1, 2022. You’ll submit details like your personal and contact info, education background, family background, a personal statement, academic transcripts, and a series of up to three short essays. Details will be on the application form.

    6. Educating Africans for Christ Scholarship

    Educating Africans for Christ (EFoC) is an NGO that aims to support needy students in Kenya and across other African nations. Established in 1997, the non-profit ministry sponsors Africans in higher learning to become cultural missionaries through advocating the spread of God’s word

    Scholarship worth

    The Scholarship program is partial. The amount awarded depends on the degree level you’ll be pursuing – plus, the funds go directly to the institution.

    Eligibility

    The sponsorship supports students who wish to pursue diplomas, certificates, and under-graduate degrees in theology related courses. The major requirement is to have a certificate in Secondary Education, admission letter from your institution, and attach relevant supporting documents.

    You only have to visit EFoC official website to fill in the application form once the portal opens.

    7. Wells Mountain Foundation Scholarship

    Also available for Kenyans and students from all over Africa is Wells Mountain Education Fund – commonly known as WFP Empowerment Through Education. Based in Bristol, Vermont, the Wells Mountain Initiative is a charitable organization whose mission is to bring social change through Education.

    Scholarship value

    The organization supports students who may have saved up some funds for higher learning but they need financial assistance to pursue their tertiary degree. A student can get up to $3,000 (Ksh 350, 000) – for tuition, fees, books, and materials.

    Eligibility

    • You must have completed secondary education and attained high scores.
    • You must be under the age of 35 years.
    • You must be pursuing your first bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate.
    • You must submit official documents like a personal photo, school transcripts, national exam results, and recommendation letters.

    Once accepted, WMF scholars can choose to study here in Kenya or aboard – but scholars from Canada, Australia, U.S and Western Europe are not eligible.

    How to Apply

    There are two ways to apply for the scholarship: one is through the online portal and Mail in option. The online portal can be accessed on December 1, 2022 on WMI website. Simply fill the application form and submit relevant documents. With the Mail-in option, you send scanned copies of the filled application form and all supporting documents through the mail.

    8. Access Kenya Scholarship Program

    Access Kenya is another foundation that offers diploma scholarships to bright but needy students. Its motto is to “Alleviate Poverty through Education”. Founded in 1993, ACCES has helped thousands of students to acquire knowledge and achieve their dreams. The foundation serves up to 175 wards in four counties – Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, and Bungoma.

    Scholarship value

    The program awards students with $400 (Ksh 45,000) yearly.

    N/B: This program is a partial funding scholarship.

    Eligibility

    • Applicants must have a Kenyan Citizen status.
    • Applicants must be under 30 years.
    • Applicants must be from Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and Kakamega counties.
    • Applicants have to maintain a minimum grade of B in their learning institutions.
    • Applications should not be fully sponsored by HELB.

    How to Apply

    First, you fill an eligibility criteria form, and if you’re selected you download and fill the scholarship application form. You can also get the form from their main offices, located at Milimani Estate, Kakamega. The application is open from mid-March through May.

    9. ICPAK Scholarship

    ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya) seeks to benefit college students pursuing Finance and Accounting courses.

    Scholarship value

    The scholarship covers 4 years of tuition fees, basic hotel accommodation, and pocket money for additional spending.

    Eligibility

    • Must have completed high school education.
    • Must be a top performer in their respective school with at least grade B+.
    • Must have attended a public university.
    • Must demonstrate the need for financial aid.

    How to apply

    Visit ICPAK website or their Secretariat offices to get the application form. You will be required to fill and submit the relevant documents, some of which include a duly filled application form, KCSE results slip, birth certificate copy, University admission letter, among others.

    10. CFC StanBic Bank Scholarship

    Needy Kenyan students can benefit from the CFC Stanbic Bank scholarship. The financial bank has partnered with ISIU to offer interested students with a full scholarship.

    Scholarship worth

    The scholarship fund covers tuition costs, and miscellaneous fees like medical and library fees. Sponsored students will get a chance to study degree programs like Information Systems & Technology, Applied Computer Technology, and Accounting.

    Eligibility

    • Must have completed KCSE level with at least a C+ in Mathematics and English.
    • Must be a Kenyan citizen.
    • Must be interested in pursuing programs offered at USIU on sponsorship.

    Submit your application letter, relevant documents, and academic transcripts at USIU Financial Aid.
